Accessibility statement

Vikram Dev University is committed to making its website accessible to every visitor, regardless of disability or assistive technology used. This statement records the standards applied, the features available, and the channels for reporting any accessibility issue.

Conformance

This website is built to conform to the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1 at Level AA, the Guidelines for Indian Government Websites (GIGW) 3.0, and the digital-accessibility commitments under Section 40 of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016.

Features

  • Skip-to-content link as the first focusable element on every page.
  • Semantic landmarks (header, nav, main, footer) for navigation by assistive technology.
  • Keyboard support for every interactive element. Visible focus indicator on every focusable element.
  • Accessibility toolbar at the top of every page with text-resize (A− / A / A+), high-contrast mode, dark mode, dyslexia-friendly font, reading ruler, and reduced-motion toggle. Preferences are persisted across sessions.
  • Language support in English, Odia (ଓଡ଼ିଆ), and Hindi (हिन्दी), with the language attribute correctly set.
  • Colour contrast conforming to WCAG 2.1 AA (4.5:1 for body text, 3:1 for large text and non-text contrast).
  • Alternative text for every meaningful image; decorative images are marked with aria-hidden or empty alt.
  • Form labels and error messages programmatically associated; error suggestions provided.
  • Live regions announcing dynamic content updates politely.
  • Reflow at 320 CSS pixels and 400% zoom without horizontal scroll.
  • Reduced motion honoured by default and toggleable.
  • Tap targets minimum 44 × 44 CSS pixels.
  • PDF accessibility: published documents carry a tagged structure where source allows; an HTML alternative is provided for substantive content.

The website is tested against the following screen readers:

  • NVDA (Windows, free)
  • JAWS (Windows)
  • VoiceOver (macOS, iOS; built in)
  • TalkBack (Android; built in)

Known limitations

We acknowledge that no large website is ever perfectly accessible. We work to fix issues as they are reported. Current known limitations:

  • Some legacy PDFs uploaded by the predecessor body do not carry a tagged structure. We are progressively replacing these with HTML alternatives or remediated PDFs.
  • The OpenStreetMap tile layer on the affiliated-colleges page is a third-party component; we have configured the keyboard-only interaction pattern around it.
