Campus life at Jeypore

The main campus sits in the heart of Jeypore, a market town of the Koraput plateau, 1,800 feet above sea level on the eastern edge of the Eastern Ghats. The Deomali peak and the Sabari river both lie within an hour of the campus.

Region

Jeypore — between the Sabari and the Deomali

The campus sits at coordinates 18.86° N, 82.57° E, on a plateau of 850 metres above sea level. The forested ridges of Deomali, the highest peak in Odisha at 1,672 metres, look down on the campus from the south-east. The Sabari river, tributary of the Godavari, runs to the west; the Kolab dam holds back its lower tributary fifteen kilometres to the north.

The town of Jeypore was the seat of the Jeypore Estate, ruled by the Bhanj-Deo dynasty until the merger with Odisha in 1949. The campus stands on the same twenty-five-acre tract on which the founding Maharaja established Jeypore College in July 1947.
