Vikram Dev University maintains a zero-tolerance posture on ragging. The Anti-Ragging Committee, the Anti-Ragging Squad, and the UGC helpline are the three lines of immediate response.

Definition

Ragging means any conduct, by act or word, by any student or group of students, that has the effect of teasing, taunting, treating with rudeness, indulging in rowdy or undisciplined activity, exploiting, or causing annoyance, hardship, mental or physical trauma to any other student. The full definition is at Regulation 3 of the UGC Regulations, 2009.

Anti-Ragging Squad

The Anti-Ragging Squad conducts surprise raids in hostels, common areas, and at other places of student gathering. It comprises faculty members nominated by the Vice-Chancellor and is on call at all times during the term.

Reporting and consequences

  • Any victim or witness of ragging may report to: the Anti-Ragging Squad on campus, the helpline 1800-180-5522, the helpline email, or directly to the Dean of Students' Welfare.
  • On receipt of a complaint, an inquiry is initiated within 24 hours.
  • Punishments range from suspension and rustication to debarment from examinations and registration of an FIR with the police, in accordance with the UGC Regulations and the Indian Penal Code.
  • The University will not seek to suppress, settle, or compromise any case of ragging through informal means.

Affidavits

On admission, every student and every parent submits an affidavit acknowledging the UGC Regulations, 2009 and undertaking that the student will not engage in ragging in any form. The University retains these affidavits in the student record.
