Cultural life

A campus is what its students make of it after class. The cultural life of Vikram Dev University runs on student-led societies, departmental clubs, and an annual calendar of events that reflects the four-district heritage.

Societies and clubs

  • Odia Sahitya Parisad: anchored by the Department of Odia. Translation circles, kavi-sammelan, and a quarterly bulletin.
  • Music Society: Odissi classical, Hindustani, and contemporary streams.
  • Theatre Society: annual productions in Odia and English.
  • Photography and Film Club: annual short-film festival.
  • Debate and Quiz Society: inter-collegiate fixtures.
  • Tribal Arts Circle: co-curates the Heritage Week with local Kotpad weavers and Dhokra casters.
  • NSS and NCC: service and cadet activities.

Heritage Week

Held in October each year, the Heritage Week brings master craftspeople from Kotpad, Boipariguda, and Pottangi to the campus for live demonstrations of weaving, lost-wax metal casting, jhoti rice-paste painting, and Desiya storytelling. The Department of Odia hosts a parallel research symposium on the languages and oral traditions of the four districts. The week is open to the public.

The University's engagement with tribal craft is collaborative. We do not reproduce patterns whose use is restricted by the originating community, and we work in consultation with SCSTRTI Odisha on the cultural-protocol framework. The SCSTRTI framework on community consent and attribution is followed in all programming.

Annual Cultural Festival

The annual cultural festival is held in February each year. Inter-collegiate competitions are conducted across the four districts in music, dance, theatre, fine arts, debate, and quiz, with awards conferred at a closing ceremony attended by the Vice-Chancellor.
